Job Description
The RoleThe Director of Growth Marketing will lead the Signal’s direct-to-consumer growth strategy across ticketing, membership, merchandise, digital channels and live experiences. This role will own the full consumer journey, from first impression and audience acquisition through conversion, attendance, engagement and retention.
The ideal candidate comes from a high-growth consumer brand, entertainment, hospitality, retail, subscription or e-commerce business. They understand how to combine brand storytelling with disciplined growth marketing and are equally comfortable shaping a campaign, reviewing a conversion funnel, building a lifecycle strategy and responding quickly to consumer behavior.
This is a hands-on leadership role for a builder who can establish the Signal’s marketing engine while helping create one of the Bay Area’s most exciting new live experiences.
What You’ll OwnConsumer Growth and RevenueDevelop and lead the direct-to-consumer marketing strategy across tickets, memberships, group experiences, merchandise and other fan products.
Build integrated campaigns that drive awareness, demand, conversion and repeat attendance.
Partner closely with ticketing and commercial leaders to establish audience segments, promotional calendars and sales strategies.
Manage paid media across search, social, display, retargeting and emerging platforms, continuously optimizing performance and return on investment.
Identify opportunities to improve conversion across landing pages, purchase flows, offers, pricing, packaging and calls to action.
Develop strategies that move consumers from single-match purchasers to repeat attendees, members and advocates.
Audience and Lifecycle MarketingBuild the Signal’s consumer database and establish a sophisticated segmentation and lifecycle marketing program.
Lead email, SMS and CRM strategy, including acquisition, onboarding, event communication, engagement, upsell, renewal and win-back campaigns.
Create personalized fan journeys based on interests, behaviors, purchase history and level of engagement.
Develop audience growth strategies across core segments, including volleyball families and players, women’s sports fans, Bay Area sports fans and live-event seekers.
Establish referral and retention strategies that strengthen the Signal community and increase lifetime value.
Integrated MarketingWork with Creative, Social, PR and external partners to develop campaigns that are culturally relevant and built for participation.
Build demand for every home match and develop distinct advertising campaigns around opening night, rivalry matches, cultural moments and tentpole events.
Use consumer insights and post-event data to improve the fan journey, repeat attendance and overall satisfaction.
Analytics and OperationsEstablish clear performance goals, dashboards and reporting across acquisition, conversion, engagement, revenue and retention.
Use testing and experimentation to continuously improve creative, messaging, targeting, offers and channel performance.
Manage technology platforms and other external partners, including our league tech stack.
Bring clarity, urgency and strong project management to a fast-moving startup environment.
What We’re Looking For7+ years of marketing experience, including meaningful experience in a direct-to-consumer start-up, subscription, e-commerce, retail, hospitality, entertainment or high-growth consumer business.
Demonstrated success driving customer acquisition, conversion, revenue, engagement and retention.
Strong command of paid media, CRM, email, SMS, audience segmentation, lifecycle marketing and conversion optimization.
Experience managing integrated campaigns across digital and physical consumer touchpoints.
Experience translating consumer insights and performance data into clear decisions and action.
Excellent collaborator who can work across ticketing, partnerships, content, communications, merchandise, community and event operations.
Strong leadership, communication, budget management and project-management skills.
Comfortable building systems and solving problems in an entrepreneurial environment where priorities move quickly.
Passion for live experiences, community and the opportunity to help shape the future of women’s sports.
Experience in sports is welcome but not required. We are especially interested in candidates who can bring sophisticated consumer practices from outside the traditional sports industry.
