Work with NWSL on wage tracking and compliance for Portland Thorns athletesMulti-state wage allocationsProcess semi-monthly 401k contributionsCollaborate with department managers to review and approve employee/contractor timecards, ensuring accuracy in hours worked, overtime, and leave balances. Oversee, review, and audit payrolls; complete on-demand checks including final pay, ensure compliance with company and state requirements. Prepare required league union benefit reports and payments according to contract requirements. Process and maintain accurate records of all garnishments, ensuring timely remittance to appropriate agencies. Data Management & ReportingMaintain payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering data. Update payroll records by reviewing and approving changes in exemptions, deductions, contributions, pay rates, job titles, and department/division transfers. Prepare reports by compiling summaries of hours, earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages. Confirm Federal, State, and Local payroll tax filings are filed timely and accurately. Manage payroll deductions and contributions with external vendors. Reconcile payroll tax and withholding liability accounts monthly. Employee SupportAnswer and resolve employee questions/concerns with payroll. Process new hire paperwork and ensure all verifications, earnings, benefits, deductions, and job cost structures are set up properly. Other ResponsibilitiesMaintain payroll guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures. Advise management on compliance with new legislation. Maintain employee confidence and protect payroll operations by keeping information confidential. Other duties as assigned. WHAT IT TAKES:2+ years of overall payroll experience for a medium-large sports team/organization required. Prior payroll experience in the NWSL and/or WNBA preferred. Experience working in a unionized environment, including interpreting and applying collective bargaining agreements. Experience with the implementation of ADP preferred. Familiarity with federal, state, and local payroll regulations. Strong experience managing payroll in a complex or multi-entity environment. Proficiency with Intuit payroll systems. Prior experience in sports (athlete), entertainment, venue operations, or hospitality payroll environments is a plusAbility to work independently with minimal supervision. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive payroll and employee data. Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP.
