POSITION SUMMARY:The Business Development Director will be responsible for the sales and execution of special events and sporting events. The Business Development Director will also work closely with other departments to manage staff scheduling and training. This position and the General Manager have the primary responsibility for generating revenue.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Event development and primary contact for all events after they have been contractedDetermines annual and gross-profit plans by forecasting and developing annual sales quotas for programs; projecting expected sales volume and profit for existing and new products; analyzing trends and results; establishing pricing strategies; recommending selling prices; monitoring costs, competition, supply, and demandAccomplishes objectives by planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating advertising, merchandising, and trade promotion programs; developing field sales action plansIdentifies marketing opportunities by identifying consumer requirements; defining market, competitor's share, and competitor's strengths and weaknesses; forecasting projected business; establishing targeted market shareImproves product marketability and profitability by researching, identifying, and capitalizing on market opportunities; improving product packaging; coordinating new product developmentSustains rapport with key accounts by making periodic visits; exploring specific needs; anticipating new opportunitiesProvides information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trendsProtects organization's value by keeping information confidentialUpdates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizationsServe as Manager-On-Duty ("MOD") at certain key eventsParticipation in planning/strategic meetingsWork with finance department to track and report profitabilityDevelopment of operational Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reportsVarious other duties as required by managementMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree in recreation, sports management, or related field3-5 years appropriate experience requiredProven experience in youth sports, trade shows, consumer shows and convention salesProven experience in contract negotiations, event creation and planningExperience with and expert understanding of hotel rebates and strategic partnerships between hotels, CVB, and venueMust have excellent interpersonal, problem solving, and negotiating skillsMust have excellent verbal and written communication skillsMust have excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
Must be able to work flexible schedules including weekends, nights, and holidaysPrior responsibility in P&L management and budget oversightWORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Must be able to lift 40 pounds waist highWill be required to sit for extended periods of time operating a computerWill be required to conduct venue tours to prospective clientsOffice environment has intermittent noise, normal in nature
